First Step Entrepreneur

This is just the audio from my YouTube videos.

I'm Art, I've been starting businesses for 25 years. Some worked, most didn't. Right now I'm building something called First Step Entrepreneur while making videos about it.

I don't have intro music or fancy editing. It's literally just the audio from YouTube because some people asked if they could listen instead of watch.

I talk about why smart people get stuck, share stories from businesses I've built and screwed up, and work through whatever I'm struggling with in real-time. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes it's just me figuring things out.

Each episode links back to the original YouTube video if you want to see it instead.

No step-by-step systems, no guru stuff. Just someone who's still in it, still making mistakes, still trying to figure it out.

Smart people have a dangerous habit: they'd rather be right than effective.
I spent years being right about why certain business strategies wouldn't work instead of testing them. Turns out, being intellectually correct doesn't always translate to business results.
In this episode:
Why intelligence can become a business liability
The difference between being right and being useful
How to choose effectiveness over ego
This hits close to home if you're someone who prides yourself on thinking things through. Sometimes thinking less and testing more gets better results.

Most startup stories are highlight reels. Here's the real story: we went from a $60 million valuation to selling for $10 million in about two years.
This isn't a sob story - it's reality check about what building a business actually looks like:
How we went from 100 employees to a fire sale
What I learned about business cycles and timing
Why I still don't regret any of it
The startup world loves to romanticize both spectacular success and spectacular failure. The truth is usually messier and more instructive than either narrative.

I did something that felt uncomfortably vulnerable: posted my calendar on LinkedIn and offered to talk to anyone who wanted advice.
Here's what happened and why it matters:
Why I decided to make this offer (hint: it wasn't altruism)
The unexpected responses I got
What this taught me about business development
Sometimes the best market research comes from just asking people what they need. This episode is about the messy reality of trying to understand your audience by actually talking to them.

I'm building First Step Entrepreneur in real-time, and instead of pretending I have it all figured out, I'm sharing exactly what I'm doing and why.
This episode breaks down my actual process:
What First Step Entrepreneur is trying to solve
The specific steps I'm taking to build it
Why I'm being transparent about the uncertainty
Most people share their strategy after they've succeeded. I'm sharing mine while I'm still figuring it out. Maybe that's useful if you're building something too.

Here's what every business book gets wrong about failure: they treat it like something to avoid instead of something to leverage.
After failing at multiple ventures and eventually selling a business for millions, I've learned that failure isn't the opposite of success - it's practice for success. Most people try so hard to avoid failing that they never learn how to recover from setbacks.
What this episode covers:
Why failure tolerance is an entrepreneurial superpower
How each failure teaches you recovery skills
Why people who've failed before handle stress better
This isn't motivational fluff - it's pattern recognition from someone who's been through both failure and success.

A lot of capable people get stuck overthinking instead of just starting. I used to think it was about having the perfect plan, but after 25 years of building businesses, I've learned it's actually about getting out of your own way.
In this episode:
Why smart people make things more complicated than they need to be
How overthinking becomes a form of procrastination
Why imperfect action beats perfect planning
This is unedited audio from my YouTube channel - no fancy production, just real talk about the psychology of actually doing things.
