First Step Entrepreneur

This is just the audio from my YouTube videos.

I'm Art, I've been starting businesses for 25 years. Some worked, most didn't. Right now I'm building something called First Step Entrepreneur while making videos about it.

I don't have intro music or fancy editing. It's literally just the audio from YouTube because some people asked if they could listen instead of watch.

I talk about why smart people get stuck, share stories from businesses I've built and screwed up, and work through whatever I'm struggling with in real-time. Sometimes it's useful, sometimes it's just me figuring things out.

Each episode links back to the original YouTube video if you want to see it instead.

No step-by-step systems, no guru stuff. Just someone who's still in it, still making mistakes, still trying to figure it out.

This is a short episode (4 minutes) about the mental tricks I use to get things done when I have zero motivation. Not productivity hacks - psychological workarounds.
The tricks I use:
How to outsmart your own resistance patterns
Why changing your environment changes your behavior
The power of making things harder to avoid than to do
Motivation is unreliable. What you need are systems that work even when you don't feel like working.

You've read the books, taken the courses, optimized your productivity systems, and tried every piece of advice you can find. But you're still stuck. Here's the problem: you're trying to fix symptoms instead of the root cause.
This episode is about diagnosing what's actually broken:
Why most solutions address surface-level problems
How to identify the real obstacle underneath all the tactics
The difference between fixing what's convenient and fixing what's necessary
Sometimes the thing that's actually broken isn't the thing you've been trying to fix. Stop treating symptoms and start addressing root causes.

Most ideas die in the planning phase. They get refined and researched and perfected until they never actually get built. This episode is about why I decided to build and launch a course in 2 weeks instead of spending months planning it.
The reason wasn't speed for its own sake:
How perfectionism kills more ideas than failure does
Why shipping imperfect work is better than perfecting unshipped work
What you learn from real users vs. what you imagine users will want
Ideas are cheap. Execution is everything. And most execution happens after you ship, not before.

This is me being honest about a frustrating period where I was working constantly but getting zero results. The problem wasn't that I wasn't working hard enough - it was that I was working on the wrong things.
What I learned about the difference between working hard and working effectively:
Why activity doesn't equal productivity
How to tell if your effort is actually moving you toward your goals
The importance of measuring the right things
Working constantly without results isn't a work ethic problem - it's a strategy problem.

Everyone talks about imposter syndrome like it's just an uncomfortable feeling you need to get over. But imposter syndrome has real costs that go beyond feeling bad about yourself.
This episode breaks down the actual price of imposter syndrome:
How it prevents you from taking opportunities you're qualified for
Why it makes you undercharge for your work and undervalue your contributions
How it keeps you from building the authority that would grow your business
Imposter syndrome isn't just a personal problem - it's a business problem that costs you money and opportunities.

This is me being honest about what happens when you never slow down, never take breaks, and never give yourself time to process what you're building. Spoiler: it doesn't end well.
This longer episode (11 minutes) explores:
Why constant motion isn't the same as constant progress
How never slowing down can actually slow you down
The importance of processing and reflection in building something sustainable
I used to think that slowing down was the same as giving up. I was wrong. Sometimes you need to slow down to speed up.

This is a short episode (6 minutes) about something I've been thinking about: why so few people manage to be both happy and successful. Most people seem to choose one or the other, or achieve neither.
The relationship between happiness and success is more complicated than most people think:
Why achieving goals often doesn't lead to lasting happiness
How pursuing happiness can sometimes prevent success
The framework for pursuing both without sacrificing either
It's possible to be both happy and successful, but it requires being intentional about how you define and pursue both.

I built and launched a course in 5 days. Not because I'm particularly fast, but because I finally stopped overthinking and started building. This episode is about what speed actually teaches you about execution.
What I learned from rapid execution:
Why perfection is the enemy of progress (and proof)
How constraints force you to focus on what actually matters
What happens when you ship something before you think it's ready
Speed isn't about being sloppy - it's about learning faster. The quicker you can get from idea to reality, the quicker you can start improving based on real feedback instead of imaginary problems.

I told a story at dinner that made my friend cry. Not because it was sad, but because it was about possibility and she realized she'd been settling for less than what she actually wanted.
This episode is about that story and what it taught me about how we talk ourselves out of possibilities:
Why we convince ourselves that what we want isn't realistic
How other people's stories can show us what's actually possible
The power of seeing someone else take a risk successfully
Sometimes the most valuable thing you can do is share your story honestly, because someone else needs to know that what you did is possible for them too.

What if the breakthrough you're looking for is closer than you think? What if you're not as far behind as you feel? This short episode (6 minutes) is about perspective when you're in the middle of building something.
When you're in the day-to-day grind, it's hard to see progress. Everything feels like it's moving too slowly. But what if you're actually closer to a breakthrough than you realize?
This episode explores:
Why progress feels slower when you're living it than when you're looking back
How to maintain perspective when results aren't visible yet
The importance of trusting the process even when you can't see the outcome
Sometimes you need a reminder that building anything worthwhile takes longer than you expect but less time than you fear.
